Description

Camellia Sinensis Small leaf Tea Plant Chinese Variety. Grow in full sun. Zones 7-9. Camelia Tea plants have 5-6 percent caffeine. White tea, yellow tea, green tea, oolong, and black tea are all harvested from C. sinensis var. sinensis. Tea trees are processed differently to obtain different levels of oxidation with black tea being the most oxidized and green being the least. Kukicha twig tea is also harvested from C. sinensis, but uses twigs and stems instead of leaves. The word sinensis means “from China” in Latin.  This tea plant is an evergreen Shrub or small tree that is usually trimmed to below  6 feet. Camelia Sinensis has a strong taproot. The flowers are yellow-white,1 to 1 1/2″ inches in diameter, with 7 to 8 petals.

Camellia sinensis is mainly cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates. Tea plants prefer a rich and moist growing location in full to part sun, and can be grown in hardiness zones 7 – 9.
